I humbly suggest you not be "anonymous". When you let Supt. Brooks know what you think, be sure to use both first and last name. An employee number, too, if you got it. If we aren't willing to get beyond anonymity, we ain't gettin' nowhere.
2. I disagree on the three percent for three years being unrealistic, ESPECIALLY if we can move toward a growth model and follow kid scores instead of simply comparing schools from year to year. I didn't want to make an already overlong post longer, but that's an example of the sort of specifics I'm personally interested in seeing implemented.
3. As far as naked emperors and all that, I think we're all far too sophisticated at this point to think anyone is clothed. Anyone.jscotkeyhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/09824360655778237168noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-11712764.post-68461606945965985662009-08-11T13:15:21.387-06:002009-08-11T13:15:21.387-06:00Scot wrote about Supt. Brooks: "He talks about meaningful, but realistic academic growth as the goal..."

I take a much less sanguine view of Mr. Brooks, our boss.

Brooks is on record for wanting 3% gains for each year for three years. This, too, is just as silly as NCLB. There are some schools that will see gains, some will see losses, but to expect almost 10% district wide in three--well now two--years will create the same kinds of stupid programs and pressures on teachers that we have with NCLB.

The emperor has no clothes and Brooks is just as naked as the federal folks.Anonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-11712764.post-41283195347011106692009-08-11T07:52:15.154-06:002009-08-11T07:52:15.154-06:00Thanks Scot, you've once again hit the nail on...Thanks Scot, you've once again hit the nail on the head!
When I walked into the teacher's lounge last year, and half of the teachers did not realize that Kiki Saavedra's bill affected their bottom line, I was floored.
Someone suggested years ago that we have two Unions. One for Elementary teachers, and one for middle and high schools. The thinking was that elementary types are also the pleaser types. Fiery high school and middle school types would never put up with what their pleaser colleagues put up with. Well I don't know about that, but if it means actually getting something done, like going out on strike, starting our own union, or just saying no to anything that does not serve the student, I'm for it.Anonymousnoreply@blogger.com
